When testing a hypothesis about a population mean (μ), what are the two main distributions used for the test statistic (Z or t)? How do you choose between them?

when testing a population mean, we use z if the population standard deviation is known or the sample size is large. we use t if the standard deviation is unknown and the sample size is small.
