Based on my own knowledge it can be use to observe, analyze, and evaluate the scores of entrance exam in University of the Philippines. For example. UP can compute the mean and standard deviation of all scores.Students above a certain percentile (say, 90th) may qualify.If dispersion is high, it means the exam differentiated well between strong and weak students
