Common misconceptions about operations research include the beliefs that it is only applicable to large organizations, that it solely relies on complex math and statistics, that it provides one-size-fits-all solutions, that it is limited to engineering fields, and that it is too complex for practical use.
In operations research, the word "research" might be deceptive. While research is undoubtedly a component of OR, the discipline is mainly concerned with using mathematical and analytical methods to address practical issues, frequently in industrial and corporate contexts.
Operations research includes optimization as a fundamental component, although it does not only address optimization issues. Simulation, decision analysis, game theory, queueing theory, and other topics are also included in OR.
When I read Operational Research, the first thing I thought was Research, but after reading and watching videos on YouTube or here on this site I realized that it's very different from what I thought it was
