Degeneracy in an LP problem occurs when one or more basic variables have a value of zero in a basic feasible solution. It can happen when more constraints meet at the same corner point than are necessary.
Degeneracy in Linear Programming occurs when more constraints intersect at a vertex than necessary, causing at least one basic variable to equal zero in the solution. Geometrically, this over-defines a corner point and can cause the Simplex method to stall or cycle without improving the objective value.
Degeneracy in a Linear Programming (LP) problem occurs when one or more basic variables have a value of zero in a basic feasible solution.
