An alternate optimal solution exists when a non-basic variable has a zero reduced cost in the final Simplex tableau. This means another feasible solution can give the same optimal objective value.
You can recognize alternate optimal solutions if a non-basic variable has a coefficient of zero in the C_j - Z_j (or objective function) row of the final optimal tableau. This indicates that bringing this non-basic variable into the basis will yield a new solution without changing the optimal objective value.
If the final tableau has a zero reduced cost for a non-basic variable, the problem has multiple/alternate optimal solutions.
