What is the algebraic distinction between a basic variable, a non-basic variable, and a basic feasible solution (BFS)?

Basic variables are the subset of variables whose corresponding column vectors form a non-singular basis matrix within the system of constraint equations. Non-basic variables are the remaining variables in the system that are explicitly set to zero during that specific solution state. A basic feasible solution occurs when all the basic variables evaluate to non-negative values, satisfying both the non-negativity restrictions and the system of equality constraints simultaneously.

Basic variables are the dependent variables solved directly from the constraint equations, while non-basic variables are the independent variables set equal to zero. A basic feasible solution (BFS) is the complete vector resulting from this assignment where all variable values satisfy the non-negativity constraints.

A basic variable is solved from the constraints, a non-basic variable is set to zero, and a basic feasible solution (BFS) is a solution where all variables satisfy the constraints and non-negativity conditions.

A basic variable is solved from the constraints, a non-basic variable is set to zero, and  a basic feasible solution is the resulting solution where all variables satisfy the constraints and non-negativity requirements.

A basic variable is a variable solved from the constraints, while a non-basic variable is set to zero. A basic feasible solution is a solution where all variables satisfy the constraints and are nonnegative.

A basic variable is a variable included in the current basis and is usually assigned a value determined by the system of equations, while a non-basic variable is set equal to zero in the current solution. A basic feasible solution (BFS) is a basic solution where all variables satisfy the constraints and non-negativity conditions. In simple terms, basic variables are the variables being solved for, non-basic variables are set to zero, and a BFS is a valid solution formed from them.
